“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.”
1 Timothy 2: 1-4 ESV
Devotional
How often do we really pray for our government? Do we take this exhortation seriously enough to do it on a daily or even weekly basis? Do we take it seriously enough to vote regularly whenever it’s possible? Do we take it seriously enough to know what’s going on in the government and to keep praying for the leaderships, for their salvation and for them to seek the Lord in all their decision making?
We are not called to follow a group, a political party or a man who is not spotless, but rather to follow the true and living God and Christ who is the spotless Lamb of God and the Savior of the world.
We are called to decrease so that the Lord might increase. We’re called to die to self so the Lord through us might live.
This means we do what we can to share the gospel, to pray for others, and to desire that the will of God be done in our nation.
As hard as we think times may be now, the Bible lets us know that harder times will be coming as the time of Christ to return approaches. Let’s not pray for easy times, but rather that we grow to be stronger men and women and children in Christ.
Prayer
Father, we pray that You would grant political leaders the wisdom that they need. May they repent and come to know You and humble themselves before You crying out for that wisdom. May they use discernment in all that they’re doing and in every decision that they need to make for our nation. May You forgive our nation for all the bloodshed that we have had in the way of abortions, wars, human trafficking, slavery and downright murders. Lord, may You be glorified in this United States of America as we stand repenting and returning to You. In Jesus name. Amen.
