Bible Study That Leads to Real Discipleship and Movement
What if an opportunity or venue opens up to study the Bible with people — especially people who may just be exploring walking with Jesus or who believe but have low Biblical Literacy? Sometimes we may feel under qualified or intimidated by this kind of opportunity. What if people ask questions I can’t answer? How do I do it in a way that everyone gets something out of it on their own level? How do I avoid this becoming a stale activity clogging people’s calendar, but instead make this really transformative and life giving?
The good news is that the answer to all these questions is not advanced degrees or finely-honed skills from years of experience. You can lead a powerful and life-changing Bible study by embracing a few values and learning a simple toolkit that you can pass on to others — even fairly new believers.
Here are the core values that this toolkit I’m about to share are built upon:
- Bible study is a spiritual life-skill for everyone, not just “professional Christians”.
- Growth comes from obedience, not just knowledge. The growth is of movements as well as individuals.
- Community transforms, so if we give space for real community with the Father, Son, and Spirit and each other, people will be changed.
The first item in the toolkit I’m going to share is the “Three Thirds” (3/3s) study format from The No Place Left framework. This format explains the basic parts of a Bible study meeting or a house church or Microchurch format. Notice how the center of the format is living the Bible rather than hearing something interesting.
