Mapmaking with Children
I’m including a link here to a book I’m reading currently. In it, David Sobel discusses the importance of giving kids the chance to make maps as a way to develop a sense of place. I’m finding it very useful and interesting so far as a guide to why making maps matters, especially for children, and full of ideas for ways to invite and lead activities that involve map making!
From the book:
“ Mapmaking, in the broad sense of the word, is as important to making us human as music, language, art, and mathematics. Just as the young child has an innate tendency to learn to speak and count and sing and draw, the child also tends to make maps.”

I think it would be fun to make a map of my house and eventually of Camp Deerpark.
and it would also be fun to make a map of Brandt road.C.C.

@MagFamily Your house or Brandt road would be an awesome place to start… and I think it might also be fun to try making a map of the chicken coop 🙂
