Revelation Rhythm

Revelation Rhythm describes the third position on The Journey Map — a framework for individuals and communities to locate themselves on journey with Jesus. This position is part of The Land of Belonging. In order for people to belong to Jesus his identity must be revealed in their life. This will also naturally reveal more of their God-given identity. In the same way, real belonging in community requires people to reveal their identity, see the revealed identity of others, and entertain a new collective identity together.

Often the activities of this position center on Bible study, prayer, or facilitated discussions. The main point of the activities is to make intentional, regular space for God to speak and manifest his power and presence into the space created by deep listening and seeing each other in The Story Zone. This power and presence reveals God in our the challenges of our situations sometimes described as “The Four Ds” — demons, disease, death, and dogma.

While God may reveal himself before this position, here individuals and teams build rhythms of revelation — of Jesus showing who he is and who we really are — that build up to the commitment to a new identity in the Immersion transition.

Core Dynamics

Revelation Rhythm is powered by the following core dynamics distilled from revelation’s causes and effects in Scripture. When God reveals who he is in scripture — and who his people are — one or more of the following usually happens:

• Change of Scope: A intentional shift in perspective from “big-to-small” or “small-to-big” that produces an “Aha moment” often connected to big questions of “Why?” which, in turn, speak to identity.
• Excavating Truth: Effort to “get to the bottom of the issue” until deeper truth is discovered, often resulting in contrasting the false self and the true self and the true identity of God.
• Showing the Path: Aligning thought, behavior, and action to God’s design and our destiny, revealing identity through journey together.
