Data Requests from Public Authorities
Data Requests from Public Authorities states our policy with regards to requests from non-publicly accessible data by law enforcement, courts, or other public authorities.
Our policy — in compliance with all applicable laws — is:
- Any request for data requires internal review to establish the legitimate identity of the authority and their agent(s) AND their legal right to access the requested information.
- Any request not immediately deemed legal or lawful by internal review will be challenged through appropriate channels. In cases where public authorities do not provide a clear path the challenge, we will seek a path through their oversight body or other regulators or through the courts.
- We will practice data minimization — when a request is found to be legal, we will disclose the minimum amount of information sought by the request.
- All public authority requests for data from any claimant will be documented, including those deemed to be false or non-legal requests.
