Data Requests from Public Authorities

Data Requests from Public Authorities states our policy with regards to requests from non-publicly accessible data by law enforcement, courts, or other public authorities.

Our policy — in compliance with all applicable laws — is:

  1. Any request for data requires internal review to establish the legitimate identity of the authority and their agent(s) AND their legal right to access the requested information.
  2. Any request not immediately deemed legal or lawful by internal review will be challenged through appropriate channels. In cases where public authorities do not provide a clear path the challenge, we will seek a path through their oversight body or other regulators or through the courts.
  3. We will practice data minimization — when a request is found to be legal, we will disclose the minimum amount of information sought by the request.
  4. All public authority requests for data from any claimant will be documented, including those deemed to be false or non-legal requests.
