        What is a "bush dog"?

This was a new one for me! The Chester Zoo has just welcomed new bush dog pups. But what is a bush dog anyway? I had never heard of these little guys before. Take a look and then let’s learn all we can about these amazing creatures:

bush dogs are endangered in south America and look between a tiny bear an otter and a puppy.

bush dogs are from south America not much is known about them in the wild.

          they can kill a capybaras!!!

Bush dogs are a mammal in the canine family found in south and central America and can be found near water such as swamps and rivers. There diet consists of mainly meat and sometimes fruit but are adaptable they can eat bananas and chase down tapirs. Another talent Bush dogs have is swimming and team work sometimes they scare prey into the water were more are waiting. They live in packs of up to 12 individuals consisting of a dominant male and female and offspring. Fun fact: scientists found Bush dogs fossils before they found living specimens so they thought Bush dogs were extinct!Bush dogs are not extinct but are endangered due to habitat loss.

Often, when we think about stewardship, we think of how humans can find ways of being in nature that also is good for our animal neighbors. But sometimes — especially for “shy” animals that require huge ranges — the mere presence of humans threatens their survival.

What should we do in these situations? Should we set up huge tracks of land where people aren’t allowed? Or is it more important that we “fill the earth” (Gen 1:28)?

Scientists in our area are noticing that some species once through to be ultra-sensitive to human presence — like ruffed grouse, fishers, and bob cats — are learning to be ok with human infrastructure so long as humans leave them adequate cover and don’t interact with them directly.
