Do you find there’s a regular season every year where you struggle with depression and motivation? You might explore SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder).

    Some things you can do:

    1. Talk to a professional to diagnose and come up with a treatment plan for seasonal motivation and depression issues.
    2. Phototherapy: some people use exposure to light to help. The idea is to supplement our indoor, sedentary modern winters with levels of light more natural to our created bodies.
    3. Calendars and rituals: SAD could mean we need a better response to the natural created rhythm of our lives. Some people are using ritual and a more mindful navigation of seasons to maintain mindset and motivation.

How can we integrate these into the theme’s of seeking and living in God’s light, enjoying healing by connecting with God’s created world, and recovering calendar and rituals as disciplines of alignment to what God is doing? Ok. Big questions. Let’s just start with if anyone is interested in trying some things in any of these?

One of the first steps is recognizing that you are affected by the seasons. Winter seems to be the most common time for SAD, but I find that any time there are long periods of no sunshine can also be difficult. I think for me it’s about being outside.

I’m willing to give these ideas a try and I want to be more mindful about getting a good amount of time outdoors.
